Transformation – A Real Life Story
Take a moment and think about this question. What would your life be like if you never transformed? Pretty boring picture, huh! With the assistance of a coach, mentor or master, you can transform just about anything. Let’s examine for a moment one of my clients named Bob.
Bob is an educated man in his 40’s with many problems on his plate and very few answers. At the time we met, he had no job, his marriage was on the rocks and his whole life seemed uncertain. Not a client I normally take on. However, Bob was referred to me, so I accepted the challenge.
During our calls I notice many things that were not working for Bob. I saw that he was living a script that didn’t support his happiness anymore. As we got to know each other, he worked diligently to “fix” the problems outside himself. Unfortunately, this did not work for him. He gradually becomes angrier and angrier and felt his life wasn’t as passionate as it once had been. He was quick to point fingers and blame others for what wasn’t working in his life.
One day as Bob was driving across the city he encountered much traffic and his anger grew. When he got home, he called me up at our regularly scheduled time. He had been holding on to his frustrations for a few months and was having trouble expressing his “root” feelings. His energy was stuck and he finally let it out and vented for about 45 minutes. He then stated, “I don’t think I’m getting much out of this coaching.” His statement was a perfect segue into my response to his venting. I said, “Don’t you think the work we have done up to this point has led you to this anger?” He burst into laughter and realized that the answers where starring right back at him. The light bulb went on as he saw how he was contributing to the problems he was having in his life.
With much continued coaching support; he worked diligently to “own” his anger and take ownership of his life. During several months of coaching that followed, he went from no job to being promoted to district sales manager! His relationship with himself, wife and daughter all improved and he continued to seek additional transformational support.
Bob’s story is one that reminds me of the inner journey we all need to take as we begin the process of transformation. With the guidance and support of mentors and coaches, we can identify the blocks, see them for what they are, own them, and begin to breakthrough old patterns that keep us from becoming all that we can be.
